Assistance to India Families

For over 20 years, a very generous American has used his humble income to support families in a very poor area of India. He met some of these people when they were youngsters in an orphanage. Now in their 20s and early 30s, many of them are married with children, and some of them are working but just “getting by.” Monthly remittances to these families provide health care, education of their children, and daily necessities.

India School Needs

The Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in India have undertaken a major initiative to provide young women independence and self-sufficiency through the profession of nursing. In 2012 they opened their School of Nursing with access to modern medical information and practice. In 2014 the School established an exchange program with the School of Nursing in the United States. But the women do not have a residence; they are using the top floor of the School of Nursing building as a temporary residence. The Sisters are trusting Christians to provide funds for this project. Plans/architectural drawings are complete, and the cost to complete the work is $1,500,000.

Projects in Southern India

Barnabas helps finance several projects in southern India:

• St. Anthony Orphanage is in the diocese of Nellore, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. We provide food and medical support for the orphanage and for families in the city. Fr. Illuri Irudayarah, pastor of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church and director of the orphanage, coordinates these efforts. • In Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, Sr. Anne, a Sister of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, directs St. Antony’s Home for orphans and abandoned children. She keeps us informed about needs for tuition, medical expenses, housing, and more.
